To raise funds through community events that support the needs of children at the Truman W. Smith Children’s Hospital.
We accomplish this through annual fundraising Cook-Off. With the generosity of sponsors, teams, and community participants, we continue to provide financial support for medical expenses that aren’t covered by insurance — helping families focus on what matters most.
Taste of the Oil Patch (TOTOP) was founded in 2001 by a group of oilfield workers in Gladewater, Texas, with one clear purpose — to raise funds for the children at the Truman W. Smith Children’s Center.
From the beginning, our annual BBQ Cookoff has been at the heart of that mission. What started with strong support from the oilfield community that has grown into a tradition that brings together cook teams, sponsors, volunteers, and families to cook, compete, and give back.
The children we support come from across the region, and every dollar raised helps offset medical expenses not covered by insurance. This support allows families to focus on their child’s care.
More than two decades later, Taste of the Oil Patch remains rooted in hard work, generosity, and community strength. We are proud of where we started and grateful for the continued support that makes this event possible.
